Southampton FC, founded in 1885 by members of St Mary's Church, have produced some of England's finest footballing talent through their renowned academy. Players like Alan Shearer, Gareth Bale, Luke Shaw and many others began their careers at Southampton. They won their only major trophy, the FA Cup, in 1976. The club moved from The Dell to St. Mary's Stadium in 2001. After relegation and promotion battles in recent years, Southampton are determined to stay in the top flight.
