📖 Club History

Manchester City was founded in 1880 as St Mark's (West Gorton) and adopted the current name in 1894. After decades in the shadow of Manchester United, the Abu Dhabi United Group's takeover in 2008 transformed the club entirely. Under Roberto Mancini they won the Premier League in 2012 in the most dramatic fashion — Sergio Agüero's injury-time goal against QPR. Pep Guardiola's arrival in 2016 began the most successful era in the club's history, including an historic treble in 2022/23: Premier League, FA Cup, and UEFA Champions League.
